Each Month we honor one Athlete of the Month submitted from each active sport!
Athletes are chosen from coach nominations at each month's Booster Club meeting!
Congratulations to our February Student Athletes of the Month!
Erin Wagner - Gymnastics: Erin is a sweet, respectful and hardworking young lady. She set high goals for herself and worked to achieve them. She finished her senior season by competing all event at the sectional meet which was a goal she set as a freshman!
Josh Little - Hockey: Josh worked very hard over the course of the year and became a big contributor for the Wings team. He’s a pleasure to coach, because he absorbs all of the information he’s given and immediately tries to execute on it. Very respectful and coachable player.
Jordyn Hudson - Girls Basketball: Great late season performances including 15 points in the sectional semi final victory vs Waterford
Ben Hetzel - Boys Basketball: Ben served as our team captain and led his teammates by example. He is a hard-working player who is dedicated to success. He competes every day and makes his teammates around him better. He has played a big role in our success this season as our floor general.
Tate Peters - Wrestling: Tate is a tremendous young man that thrives in everything he puts his mind too. Tate is an extremely high academic achiever and represents West with every once of sweat and blood in whatever sport he participates in.
Abby Standarski - Cheerleading: Abby has a true love of her sport! She is a dedicated athlete and student. She fights hard for her stunts and works hard on the mat to give it her all each time she competes.
Caroline Thompson - Ski Team: Caroline is in her third year as a competing alpine ski racer. She was on our leadership team of ski athletes who attended and participated in the 2019 Athletic Leadership Conference. As one of the team members she locked in on an improving team goal and objective of helping to promote and plan "team dinners" prior to each weeks competition ski meet. These team dinners were to be added group fun and enjoyment, but mainly focused on a goal to help foster team communication, relationships and sharing of ideas toward the overall team experience, growth and betterment of the Ski Team. She was one of the key team members to get it initiated by organizing and helping to plan these events. Needless to say it was well received by all team members with great participation and results of a more unified and cohesive team.
Zach Simons: Snowboarding: Zach has completed an outstanding year of competition at the local and state level, finishing in the top 10 for conference, 16th overall at State, and earning him invitations to 3 events at the USASA Snowboard National Competition. His tremendous commitment to physical conditioning in the off season and focus at each practice and competition has resulted in the most significant single season athletic development on the team.
Congratulations to our January Student Athletes of the Month!
Kyle Nuesse - Boys Swim: Kyle had a great Freshman season. Through his hard work and dedication, Kyle made an impact on our team. His positive attitude and work ethic was an example for his teammates throughout the year.
Taryn Andersen - Gymnastics: Taryn may be a freshman, but she is one of the hardest working gymnasts on the team. She continuously works to improve the start values of her routines. She began the season as borderline varsity on beam and bars but has earned her varsity spots on both. She has so much potential.
Leah Walters - Snowboarding: Leah has made incredible progress from her first year as the only female athlete on a co-ed team to becoming the leader and mentor to a full team of new female athletes, and earning the respect of the entire team. Leah's performance this years has been nothing short of amazing, resulting in a podium at nearly every event, a regional series championship for the snowboard cross event, and a top 10 finish at a recent All-State invitational meet. She is headed to the State Championship this weekend as the girls varsity team captain.
Morgan Thierfelder - Girls Basketball: Morgan is a senior captain who leads the team on and off the court with her work on the court and in the classroom.
Jonathan Mercier - Ski Team:"Jonathan Mercier has been a co-contributing leader to our group of athletes who have been working on team dynamics, camaraderie and growth by way of implementing various team activities and behaviors . On the practice and race courses, he has been a consistently improving competitor and helps the overall team in leading by example. In Jon's last two regular season races Jon has had podium finishes resulting in a 3rd and 2nd place medal finish. Jonathan has qualified for State and will proudly be representing his team in LaCrosse, WI this weekend at the State Alpine Ski competition.
Colton DeBauch- Boys Basketball: Colton is the ultimate competitor. He attacks every practice with focus, intensity and passion. He is committed to being a great teammate through his dedication and commitment to making himself, his teammates, and our team better. Colton's daily commitment is admirable.
Amber Kane - Poms: Amber Kane is my nominee for this month. She may only be a sophomore, but I truly believe that she is ahead of her time. This summer she represented our team, earning herself a first place in duet. Amber also carried our team having a large part in our D1 Jazz ...which can be a lot of pressure! This season she has stepped up not only helping me, but also her teammates with choreography, new ideas, fundraisers, etc. Amber is extremely respectful and well mannered. She is always willing to offer up her opinion, but also takes direction well. Amber was very sick during our Regional and State competition week, but that did not stop her. She was able to push through her school work, exams, sickness, and still gave her all at practice with little to no complaint. She has one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen and I am blessed that I get to see it for the next two years. Not only is Amber extremely talented - but she is understands the importance of relationships. Amber is a vital part of our dance family and I believe her ability to understand interpersonal communication allows her to be a great teammate and a great leader. Amber is a great kid and I hope through his award she realizes how extremely special she is. Amber Kane is a kindhearted individual who is willing to put her best foot forward not only for herself, but also for her team.
Devon Townsend - Wrestling: Devon is a high academic achiever that is also an exceptional multi sport athlete for West. He has been wrestling very well this season and is on a path of many successes as we work towards the end of the season.
Sydney Urban - Cheerleading: Sydney is one of our hardest working athletes. She might not have the highest jumps on the team but she definitely has the biggest heart on the team. She is a hard worker both on and off the mat and is a very sincere and kind person.
Jakob Schowengerdt - Hockey: Waukesha Wings boys hockey would like to nominate Jakob Schowengerdt as AOM. His sportsmanship and effort are off the charts. It’s a true reflection of his character. Thank you for considering him in the Waukesha West AOM conversation.

Magnus Kuokkanen - Wrestling: Magnus is an exceptional multi sport athlete and does it while maintaining over a 4.0 GPA. His drive and focus set him apart from many athletes not only around the school but around the state.
Victoria Toshner - Poms: Tori is currently one of our senior captains, however, she has been leading our team since her first day freshman year. Tori has faced many medical obstacles throughout her tenure and she has pushed through them all. Never complaining, never giving anything less than her best. When she has not been able to be on the floor dancing with her team, she has been on the sidelines offering words of support and wisdom. Tori has been chosen to participate in the All Star Badgerette performance in February for her leadership, sportsmanship, and talent. Tori takes initiative, leading the charge in team bonding and creating an environment that is welcoming to all. What makes Tori so special is not her amazing dance ability....but her heart of gold. She truly is the spirit of what a spirit squad is suppose to represent. She is wise far beyond her years, genuine at all times, and a class act....being a great role model for any underclassman. I have been honored to coach her for the last 4 years and it will be very hard to see her leave. The world will be her oyster and I can only imagine what will lie ahead for her. West will be lucky to have Tori Toshner as an alumni.
Sean Kendellen - Boys Swim: Sean came into the season with a strong foundation from working hard in the off-season. He's carried that momentum through to this point, putting in (a lot of) good yards every day. In addition, Sean maintains his academics as a priority and is able to balance this well throughout the swim season. His hard work continues to pay off in and out of the pool. Sean is committed, coachable, and a great teammate. We're really glad Sean's on our team.
Loken Siebert - Skiing: Loken, a second year student-athlete skier has consistently shown improvement in his skiing and leadership abilities. This past summer, he along with two other team members co-authored the teams mission, goals & objectives statement. As a co-contributor they have together been implementing and living these objectives. Loken has been instrumental in helping the team grow through recruitment activities with the area middle schools and with representation at West open houses. He also took the initiative in creating the design for this seasons team logo. This design was implemented on this years team spirit wear.
Peter Skogman - Boys Basketball: I would like to recommend Pete Skogman for athlete of the month for BBB. Pete has been a great leader day-in and day-out at practice. He is a vocal leader who communicates effectively with coaches and teammates. His energy and passion for his team is evident and admirable. Pete takes pride in doing little things well and develops as a player and leader each and every day. Pete is well deserving of athlete of the month.
Kevin Frey - Hockey: The Waukesha Wings would like to nominate Kevin Frey as AOM. Kevin was voted as a Team Captain by his peers. He has positively impacted his teammates both on and off the ice. His strong leadership and solid play has helped the Wings win 3 out of their last 5 games. Thank you for considering him in the Waukesha West AOM conversation.
Kameron Komar - Snowboarding: As a returning athlete, Kameron has taken a leadership role on the team by providing guidance and mentorship to all of our first year athletes, and contributed greatly to developing and reinforcing our culture of teamwork and respect to kick off our season. Always the first one to show up and the last one to leave, Kameron has been dedicated and helpful to his teammates and coaches.
Congratulations to our November Student Athletes of the Month!
Zowie Farence - Girls Swim: Zowie fits the criteria because she had a fantastic meet at sectionals. She is someone who shows empathy toward individuals on the team and puts the team first.
CJ Grisar - Wrestling: He is dedicated to making West wrestling a powerful program on and off the mat. He is an excellent leader and is committed to helping others. He also does extremely well in the classroom ranking very high in his class.
Caleb Dusseau - Hockey: Caleb is a Senior Defensemen on the Waukesha Wings Hockey Team. He was recently selected as Captain of the Wings, and helped lead the team to its first victory of the season. He leads by example with a tremendous work ethic. He’s also a very dedicated teammate. We’re lucky to have him on the team and look forward to big things from him in the upcoming season.

Molly Asfeld - Girls Tennis: Molly qualified for the state individual tennis tournament in Madison, during the regular season she posted an impressive 24-8 record
Bailey Standarski - Cheerleading: Bailey fits the criteria of a student-athlete because of her determination to be not only an excellent cheerleader and athlete but also because of her determination and desire to be a good student. Although tumbling comes easy for Bailey, school and learning cheers does not. Bailey works hard to maintain her grades and her cheer routines (which there are two). She is also a valuable member of the Academic Decathlon team here at West as well as a volunteer youth coach for Waukesha West Youth Cheer. She is so kind and patient with our future cheerleaders. We are proud to nominate Bailey Standarski for the Booster Club Student-Athlete of the Month. She is a deserving young lady.
Alexis Boling - Girls Volleyball: Alexis an amazing athlete and teammate. She is self disciplined, driven, enthusiastic, a great leader and motivator to others. Her love of the game is apparent every time she steps on the court. Alexis had 438 kills (second in the conference), 318 digs, was 1st Team All Conference (second year in a row), MVP of her team this season!
Myra Stray- Girls Cross Country: As a freshman, she has adjusted to the 5K distance during the season and has concluded a very successful first season of high school cross country. She is very coachable and hard working at practice every day. Myra Stray was one of ten WIAA Sectional Cross Country Individual Champions this fall.
Katrina Foote - Poms: Katrina would be an amazing representative for the school this month. She is a 4 year varsity member, she is the captain and most recently she was awarded the All Star Badgerette Award for leadership where she will be representing Waukesha West in Disney this spring. Katrina will be the first dancer to have attended this event in the schools history. It is a great honor. Katrina shows her maturity and growth through her ability to have initiative. This year she has been responsible for many of the teams formations, routines, fundraisers, and upcoming specialty events. Currently she is planning an alumni performance as well as having a hand in our Christmas party. More times than not, something is on Katrina’s radar before it is on mine!

Alec is a respectful, hardworking athlete, that puts others before himself. He is involved in many activities at West, his Church, community and is a wonderful young man. The Boys Volleyball program has grown stronger because of his efforts and I feel blessed to coach him.

Boys Soccer - C.J. McCune: I am nominating C.J. McCune for Student-Athlete of the Month because has shown an incredible work rate and hard work coming into our fall season. C.J. has improved his game immensely, all due to his hard work and commitment. While last year he came off the bench, he is now a consistent starter and is a senior leader. Often times, defenders don't get the "accolades" that the goal-scorers do, but C.J. is an extremely important piece to our team and deserves recognition.
Girls Cross Country - Kaya Kuokkanen: Excellent senior leadership throughout the summer captain practices.
Girls Swim - Rebecca Beam: Rebecca Beam has stepped it up this year. Her work ethic has improved, she has become a leader for the underclassmen
Boys Volleyball - Matthew Spellman: Matthew Spellman has been part of the Varsity Boys Volleyball Team since a Freshman. He is now a Senior and represents the program extremely well. He is an honor student, is involved in community/Church activities and balances other commitments very well. West Boys Volleyball is grateful to have Matthew in the program.
Girls Golf - Kila Eckmann: Kila has worked hard to improve her golf game and is a positive role model for our younger golfers
Cheerleading - Brooke Pfister: Brooke Pfister is a fighter! Not only does she fight to keep her stunts up, her grades up and her teammates spirits up, she recently had some health issues which led to her having her tonsils removed. During all this she still attended practice and when she couldn't she did what she could to keep with what her teammates were learning at practice via video. Having her tonsils removed has been a game changer for Brooke. She is now healthier and happier than ever! We are proud to nominate Brooke for Student Athlete of the Month.
